Up Your Game, Television Set Designers

Why is it that on otherwise brilliant television shows, the music posters up in the kids' bedrooms are always so sad and clueless? It's like they've got this amazing eye for detail in every other aspect of the human condition but this. AJ Soprano listens to Sugarcult? Really? Who the fuck listens to Sugarcult?

I remember watching a show one time, where the kid dug Interpol. He didn't have a poster, but he was wearing a shirt. The storyline had something to do with his dad not paying attention to him, so he asked "what's my favorite band?", the dad said something like "The beach boys!" and the kid points at his own shirt in disbelief.

This was right around the time of Bright Lights, so it was pretty amazing to see.
